Rock On 5K for Special Olympics

Rockdale Special Olympics will hold its inaugural "Rock On Rockdale" 5K and 1 mile Fun Run on March 24, just in time to have some fun in the warming spring weather.

The run, which begins at the Whistle Post Tavern, 935 Railroad Street, at 8:30 a.m. for the 1 mile and 9 a.m. for the 5K, winds through Olde Town Conyers in a marked, supervised course. Water is available at the 1 mile and 2 mile marker and the finish.

An awards ceremony at Whistle Post and party afterwards begins at 10 a.m. Awards will be given to first, second, third place male and female runners under the age of 12 in the 1 mile. The first, second, third place finishers in the 5K, as well as the top overall female, overall male, masters female, and masters male will be awarded.

Pre-registration until March 5 is $20 per person and $70 for a family of four. After March 5 until race day, registration is $25 per person. Pre-registered runners/walkers will receive a T-shirt. To register, go to active.com.

Even those who can't run, walk or roll in the race can still participate by sponsoring a Special Olympics athlete for $20.

Strollers and wheelchairs are welcome, but participants are asked not to bring their pets.

Parent or guardian signature required for those under 18 years old.
