Mr. Rex Byron Thomas, age 62 of Conyers, GA passed into God's loving arms on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 after actively battling a rare genetic disease Alpha 1 anti trypsin deficiency for a year. Rex was born and raised in Riddles Bend, Alabama. He is a retired Sheet Metal Worker out of Local 85. Rex believed in the Union and always supported the right of workers to organize and the collective bargaining process. Rex was an avid hunter and spent many hours in the woods. His life's avocation was working with and helping those recovering from alcoholism. He carried the message every day. Rex is survived by his wife, Karen Colleen Thomas; children, Jimmy Thomas, Paul Thomas, Jacob Thomas, Laura Faye Stebbins, Adam Sechelski, and James Taylor; their spouses, Judy, Diana, Holly, Lee, Sarah, and Kerrie. Rex leaves his brother, Steve Thomas; sisters, Reba Gilbert, Mary Deerman, and Vicki White; brothers-in-law, George Newby, Christopher Newby, and Trent White; sisters-in-law, Elaine Thomas, Elizabeth Brodie, and Ann Thomas; grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Jarrett Thomas, Cady and Callie Baker, Corey, Chelsey, Joey, Sophia, and Lauren Thomas, Hunter and Shayleigh Thomas, Luke Stebbins, and Lily Sechelski. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Thomas. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 13, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Scot Ward's Green Meadow Chapel; interment will follow at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends Saturday, November 12, 2011 from 2 until 4 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be submitted on-line at www.scotward.com.
