The Rockdale County Sheriff's Office is inviting the public to get a behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement with the Rockdale Sheriff's Citizens Academy, starting May 6.

Sheriff Eric J. Levett announced that the RCSO is rolling out a newly enhanced 14-week Sheriff's Citizens Academy on May 6.

The Sheriff's Citizens Academy is designed to give citizens of Rockdale County an understanding of inter-workings of the RCSO. In addition, the Sheriff's Citizens Academy will allow residents to get some practical experience with many of the different tools, equipment, and weapons that are used by the deputies. Throughout the 14 week academy, citizens will learn the different functions of the various bureaus at the RCSO.

The newly revamped Sheriff's Citizens Academy will no longer be limited to the classroom. The Sheriff's Citizens Academy has been extended in length to allow for more hands-on training and exercise participation, which will include Taser and firearms training, a mock crime scene, and a criminal trial - just to name a few!

The Sheriff's Citizens Academy will be held every Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. starting May 6, 2014. There is no cost to participate in the Sheriff's Citizens Academy, but participants must be 18 years of age or older and be residents of Rockdale County.

The Sheriff's Citizens Academy space is limited to 25 people. Applications must be filled out and turned into no later than May 1, 2014. Applications can be picked up at the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office or by emailing Brian.Reents@rockdalecounty.org.
Applications can be hand delivered to the RCSO or mailed to the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office attention Investigator Reents 911 Chambers Drive Conyers GA 30012.

"I encourage every Rockdale resident who is interested in learning how the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office operates to consider this academy." said Sheriff Eric J. Levett. "I, along with numerous members of my staff, have been working on enhancing the Sheriff's Citizens Academy for months now. I am very pleased with the newly enhanced version, and I am excited to roll it out as the first Sheriff's Citizens Academy since I became Sheriff. While the Sheriff's Citizens Academy is designed to educate residents, it also gives our residents an opportunity to interact with and to get to know the men and women of the RCSO."
