RCPS high school students scored higher on the Georgia High School Writing Test than last year, and even scoring higher on average than students in the state and the metro-Atlanta area.

This year, about 97 percent of RCPS test takers met or exceeded standards on the test. Students in the metro area averaged 96 percent, and in the state averaged 95 percent.

The test was given to juniors who took the exam in September.

"We are pleased to see that our students are performing at a very high level on this writing test," says Superintendent Dr. Sam King. "Our teachers, administrators and support staff have been focusing on writing strategies at all grade levels and these results show that it is working. Good writing skills strengthen comprehension in all subject areas and are essential to being good communicators in all facets of life."
