Rockdale finishes rough 2011 season (Nov. 4, 2011)
Michael Etheridge has released from his duties as head football coach at Rockdale County High School on Tuesday.
RCHS Principal Georgi Nour said it was a "personnel issue" and Etheridge, who is a part-time employee at the school, will remain as a wrestling coach.
"He will not be our football coach starting now for the next year," Nour said. "He has been released from that duty."
The position of head football coach will be posted Friday with interviews being conducted over the next two weeks. After the Thanksgiving holiday Rockdale's executive committee, consisting of Nour, Athletic Director Jerrid Harris and four parents, will interview candidates.
"After that we will make a decision on who will be our next football coach," Nour said.
Etheridge was with the Bulldogs for four seasons, taking them to highs such as a semifinal appearance in 2009, and to lows such as a 1-9 finish this season.
Rockdale defeated Winder-Barrow - which went a region-worst 0-10 - 17-13 in the season's opening week, before dropping the final nine.
Before arriving at Rockdale, Etheridge compiled a 4-16 record at Etowah from 2991-92 and an 18-23 ledger at Jackson County from 1984-87.
"He has served our boys well for the last four years," Nour said.
