IN BRIEF: The Publix grocery store on Ga. 20 south is moving across the street to a new $12 million shopping center being constructed next to Target. The new Publix store will be about 45,000 square feet - about 10,000 square feet smaller than its current space - with another space of about 6,750 feet attached. Two other detatched buildings, 15,400 square feet and 7,800 square feet, will also be built. City spokesperson Jennifer Edwards said it is not known what other businesses will occupy the shopping center. The Ga. 20 south Publix store opened in 1994, and the stores have an average of 110 employees, said a national spokesperson.
Millers Chapel Road and Ga. 20 south will be widened to accomodate the development.
The new store is estimated to open in spring 2012.
