Property fraud prevention tool launched

Property owners now have another tool to help protect them against property fraud.

Rockdale County recently launched Property Check on the Clerk of Courts’ website. The free self-service feature alerts owners whenever a filing is made on their property.

Property owners can sign up by clicking the notifications link on the Clerk’s online services webpage and choose to be notified via email or text message.

When a document matching their contact information is entered in the Real Estate Division of the Clerk of Courts, a notification is sent out.

“Mortgage fraud is one of the fastest growing white collar crimes in America. It has touched communities all over the state, including Rockdale County,” said Rockdale Clerk of Courts Ruth Wilson.

“The impact can be reflected in propriety tax assessments as well as the quality of life in effected neighborhoods. This service is designed to give property owners a little more control of their assets.”

The Real Estate Division is responsible for recording all real estate transactions including deeds, liens, plats, etc. These document types can be monitored using Property Check.
