Rockdale Post 77 won its first ever region tournament game, and stayed alive in the Southeast tournament Friday.
Post 77 rallied from a three-run deficit with nine runs in the bottom of the eighth to eliminate Florida in a 12-6 victory at McCray Park in North Carolina.
"In the eighth inning we finally did what we have been doing all year," Georgia coach Demarco Hamm said to the Courier-Tribune.
Jonathan Bym wrote for The Courier-Tribune that Rockdale tallied eight of its 20 hits in the penultimate frame.
According to the report, Evan Alderman led off the eighth inning, and reached first on a throwing error, reaching second on the same play.
Eastside's Andrew Buckhault doubled, scoring Alderman, before Keith doubled down the right field line, scoring his brother.
Another Eastside alumni, Musashi Briem, drove in Keith Buckhault to tie it.
The winning run was walked in, before Rockdale scored six more.
"This really gave us confidence being down six runs and battling back," Andrew Buckhault said to The Courier-Tribune.
The Courier-Tribune also reported, Andrew Buckhault had three RBI and was one of three Rockdale hitters with four hits.
The eighth-inning outburst was a far cry from Rockdale's previous game, when it was shut out 10-0 in a loss to Randolph County Post 45.
Dennis Garcia of the Courier Tribune reported several Rockdale players missed the tournament because of classes, and suffered 13 hits by Post 45.
Casey Shubert pitched for Rockdale, lasting two innings, spoiling his 4-0 record with a 2.62 ERA, coming in.
"He just didn't have it," Rockdale coach Demarco Hamm told the Courier Tribune.
According to the Courier Triune, Easton Welch pitched six innings, giving up three hits, walking four and striking out five batters.
"My hat's off to that team," Hamm said to the Courier-Tribune. "They can beat any team in this tournament."
The Courier-Tribune went on to report, "Post 45 finished with 13 hits in the seven-inning game with Kyle Smith a perfect 4-for-4 and Dylan Richardson and Dylan Prevatte adding two hits each."
It was the first time Rockdale was shut out all season, and it was the fewest runs it scored since beating Loganville 2-0 June 16.
