Police are searching for an armed robber that struck the Suburban Lodge off the access road Friday afternoon.

A black male, described as approximately18-21 years old, came into the Suburban Lodge Extended Stay Hotel a little before 3 p.m.

Conyers Police Chief David Cathcart said, "He held up the clerk with a handgun, took their money and somehow or another, gets the clerk’s car keys." The suspect then drove off in the clerk’s car.

Police spotted the car on Parker Road Bridge, heading into Olde Town Conyers and gave chase. The suspect reportedly attempted to drive into the Nancy Guinn Library parking lot but jumped the curb and crashed into a parked vehicle.

Cathcart said the suspect then jumped out, ran past the front of the library and into surrounding neighborhoods and area, where officers lost sight of him.

A search was performed throughout the afternoon and evening, with assistance from the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office and a helicopter from the Georgia State Patrol, but the suspect was not located as of press time.

The suspect was described as a medium-complexioned black male, with short, Afro-style hair, wearing a blue hoodie, jeans and dark shoes.
