Patriots, Salem compete at region meet

The Heritage Patriots and Salem Seminoles cross-country programs competed at the Region 8-AAAAA cross-country championships Nov. 2 at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers, with the Patriots placing sixth overall in the women’s race and eighth overall in the men’s race.

The Seminoles did not have enough participants to register a team score.

The Lady Patriots led Heritage at the event with a sixth-place finish, scoring 184 points to finish ahead of Apalachee and Gainesville. The men’s team finished in eighth place with 176 points, finishing 16 points behind Loganville.

Alexia Wilson led the Lady Patriots with a 27th place finish, posting a time of 23:15 to finish in the top 30.

Sophie Moll placed second for Heritage, and 33rd overall, with a time of 24:08.Emily Taylor (25:00), Estrella Bailon (25:22) and Erin Carter (25:42) rounded out the scoring for the Lady Patriots, finishing 28th, 42nd and 44th in the event, respectively.

Damali Thomas (26:01) and Mikayla Nolden (31:15) also competed for the Lady Patriots, placing 46th and 54th, respectively.

Winder-Barrow High School finished first overall in the women’s team event with 30 points, placing four runners in the top 10.Micah Weathers led the Lady Bulldoggs with a first place finish in 19:21.

Loganville (41) and Flowery Branch (51) placed second and third in the women’s meet.

In the men’s competition, Darryl Bowie led the Patriots with a 23rd place finish in a time of 18:25.

T.J. Wilson finished six spots behind Bowie for Heritage, running at time of 18:41 to place 29th.

Jacob Ball (19:11), Samuel Wells (19:24) and Tharyn Coe (19:47) rounded out the Patriots’ scorers, placing 28th, 41st and 45th overall, respectively.

Chase Hall (20:25, 53rd) competed, but did not score, for the Patriots.

Flowery Branch placed four runners inside of the top five, and five runners in the top 10, to take the men’s team title with 19 points. Nicholas Ashmead earned the individual title for Flowery Branch, recording a time of 16:48 to finished two seconds ahead of teammate Jake Shewbert.

Winder-Barrow (75) and Apalachee (99) finished second and third in the men’s team competition.

Salem results

The Seminoles took seven runners to the region cross-country meet.

Raquial Anderson led the Lady Seminoles with a 52nd place finish, posting a 29:14 finish. Jordan Marshall (30:36) and Chelsea Mitcham (32:05) finished 53rd and 55th, respectively.

In the men’s race, the Seminoles grabbed the final four spots in the men’s race. Marquis Alexis paced 55th overall to lead Salem, finishing in a time of 21:25.

ShaQuan Tucker (22:43), William Garrett (24:03) and Joshua Oloyede (24:05) rounded out the Seminoles finishers, placing 56th, 57th and 58th, respectively.
