Patriots rally for extra inning win
Lady-Patriots-pitcher-Kamryn-Toney

The Heritage Lady Patriots stay undefeated (4-0) at home with an extra inning 6-5 win, to keep the streak alive at 6 in a row.

You could hear the crowd affectionately shout "Kam" as the pitcher gave up no runs through three innings facing the Apalachee Lady Wildcats. Kamryn Toney allowed only two hits in the fourth, but two errors allowed a runner from third to score before a double play ended the inning.

There were few hits and a few errors until the fifth when both team's bats got hot. The Lady Wildcats started the top of the fifth inning with a single, and a walk before an RBI double by Logan Leverette made it 2-0. With bases loaded, a sacrifice fly makes it 3-0 and Allison Cole doubles scoring two more runs making it 5-0 Lady Wildcats.

The Lady Patriots senior Kamryn Toney ended the inning with a strikeout. At the bottom of the fifth, Destiny Herrera singles and after a walk, Gabby Lester hits a double scoring two runs to make it 5-2. A sacrifice fly by the Lady Patriot's junior Morgan Whiten scores a run making it 5-3.

The Lady Patriots weren't done yet. Allison Allegretti singles and steals second and third base two pitches later, and Toney singles with an RBI making the score 5-4 Wildcats.

The sixth inning started with a strikeout from Toney, followed by a ground out and a pop fly to retire the side. Heritage only got one hit from Gabby Lester in the bottom of the sixth before two groundouts.
Both dugouts were rowdy for the seventh inning, and the Lady Wildcats started with a groundout followed by a single and a runner being thrown out at second base. They ended the top of the inning with a pop out.
In the bottom of the seventh, Toney doubles and the second baseman Claire Williams grounds out, but it moves a runner into scoring position. Sophomore Paige Owens then hits an RBI double as "Kam" scores from third base making the score 5-5.

In extra innings with the bases loaded in the top of the eighth, Toney seemed to refocus and strikeout two in a row ending the inning for Apalachee. The Lady Patriots get a sacrifice bunt by Haley Holcombe to move a runner to third, and after an error on a pitch that the Lady Wildcat catcher couldn't handle. The runner from third dived for home-plate while the throw to the pitcher to cover the bag was bobbled and dropped, 6-5 Lady Patriots.

The game ends in an exciting thriller on a great night for softball with a packed crowd attending. The Lady Patriots had 10 hits and six stolen bases after a slow start, and their aggressive play allowed them to stay in the game and rally back for the win. The Heritage softball team is 3-0 in the region, and 7-1 overall. They have an away conference game against Salem Seminoles on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
