CONYERS - The biannual Parent Academy provided by Rockdale County Public Schools returns Saturday, Sept. 19, 8:30 a.m.- 2 p.m. at Rockdale Career Academy. All adults are invited to attend this free event.
This is a one-day conference for parents and others who want to enhance their knowledge and skills because they care about the health and well-being of young people in Rockdale County.
Participants will be welcomed with an update on school system initiatives by Superintendent Rich Autry. Following the superintendent's remarks, they will be able to attend up to three classes on a variety of topics.
Classes at the fall event include: Taking Care of the Caregiver, Math Fact Fluency, Preparing for Georgia Milestones, Digital Citizenship (how to use technology responsibly), Financial Planning Tips, Making Athletes Successful Students, Talking to Your Teens About Sex and the Influences of Social Media, Move on When Ready (taking college classes in high school), Couponing, Beginning Yoga, Zumba, Estate Planning, the Truth About ADHD, and more.
In addition, there will be classes just for middle and high school students as well as Spanish-speaking families and families of students with disabilities. Childcare is provided free of charge for pre-registered children ages 3-10 whose parents attend Parent Academy.
Nearly 50 vendors representing local businesses and services will be on site throughout the day to offer useful products and information for parents attending Parent Academy.
"Parent Academy is a great opportunity for parents gain information for personal development, obtain ideas and strategies for parenting, and learn about resources to help their children be successful in school," explained Student Support Coordinator Susan Paul Smith.
