Our thoughts... Luck of the Irish

Next Thursday is the day that Americans of Irish descent proudly celebrate St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland.

And for that one day, the ranks of the Irish mysteriously swell as it seems that everyone discovers that they have some Irish roots and join the happy celebrations.

In Chicago, Boston and Denver they hold parades with thousands of revelers and would-be leprechauns. Chicago even dyes its river green for the day.

Here in Conyers we too have a parade. It’s not fancy but it is full of spirit and cheer.

We also have a run that is sure to be the envy of the land; 0.1 miles, with a refreshment stop midway.

Our parade starts at 4:30 p.m. in old Town Conyers and everybody, Irish or not, can be in it.

We are proud of our little parade with the big heart because it reflects a pride that exists all year long that we have in our community; it’s fun, it includes everyone, and most of all, it doesn’t take itself too seriously.

If you can’t walk the two blocks, bring your chair and wave to your friends and neighbors as they pass by.

After the parade you can stay enjoy some of our restaurants, speak with your neighbors and enjoy a day devoted to happiness.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day from the staff of the Rockdale News.
