Our Thoughts: Happy Birthday, Rockdale Medical

It is hard to envision that when folks set out 60 years ago with a dream to build a medical facility to in Rockdale County, that their dream would turn into the 138 bed, multi-million dollar state-of-the-art facility that we have today in Rockdale Medical Center.

Five years ago, LifePoint Hospitals, based in Nashville, Tenn., bought our local hospital. At first there was some skepticism, but over these five years LifePoint has proven to be a true community partner, pouring more than $34 million dollars in capital investments alone into our local hospital. The care and services, in our opinion, have improved and the reason is that we have great local leadership and a 1,200 member staff who believes that our hospital is the best.

In fact, LifePoint this past year has awarded RMC its highest honor, the “High Five Award,” for excelling in five core areas of excellent patient care, physician support, employee workplace, community service and fiscal responsibility.

Celebrating its 60th birthday on Sept. 4, officials announced another plus for the hospital and the citizens of our county. There is now a partnership with Piedmont Healthcare system, rated one of the best in the country for cardiac services and other services. (See page 1)

This allows our local hospital to immediately improve and add to its cardiac department. Soon there will be no need to lose precious time being transferred to Atlanta.

We look for this partnership to continue to bring new services to our hospital.

We are proud to wish the folks at Rockdale Medical Center a very happy 60th birthday and we are looking forward to our hospital being a one-stop-medical care facility.
