Our thoughts: Hands Across Rockdale

In the spirit of community, we challenge you to come to Hands Across Rockdale on April 13, 8 a.m. to noon.
Many hands make a load light, the saying goes. What would take one person weeks to tackle, when a group comes together, is done within hours.

New ramp for the handicapped? Done. Landscaping makeover for a school? Done. Clearing the yard of a senior citizen. Done.

It's nothing new. In the days of old, neighbors would come together for barn raisings or harvests.

That same spirit of community service lives on today through events like Hands Across Rockdale, which was started by the Chamber's Leadership Rockdale program.

Organizers are seeking projects that can help improve and benefit the community, help churches, schools, the young or the elderly and disabled.

They need to be located within Rockdale and need to be a project that can be finished within four hours by Average Joe's. Organizers hope to have 40 projects ready to go this year.

The deadline to apply is Feb. 15.

To apply or for more information, go to handsacrossrockdale.org or contact katy@conyers-rockale.org.
