We have had a good news week, thank goodness.

The injury to native son Kevin Ware that occurred in a nationally televised basketball game against Duke was a scary tragedy at first glance. However, the great efforts of some very good doctors have allowed Ware to start down the road of a speedy recovery process. The courage and determination of this young man became a national story of hope for all of us.

Ware, an important member of the final four champion Louisville Cardinals, is a graduate of Rockdale High school.

His character put Rockdale County on the map; we are relieved to see that the early prognosis is positive and that he will be back to full form in time.

The Chamber of Commerce also made news recently as it moved into its new facilities at 236 Green Street in Conyers.

For years the chamber was located at a city owned facility next door to Conyers City Hall; the chamber purchased this building at a great price and through the efforts of its members is now operating out of a state of the art facility, that will be used to assist its members and to provide a first class meeting place for prospective new business that might be interested in locating in our community.

The chamber was able to make this deal without incurring major debt because of wise use of its members' moneys.

This past week the city and county celebrated a major victory as they celebrated the groundbreaking of the new Hillphoenix facility which will be located at the corners of Sigman and Gee roads.

The new 500.000 square foot facility will house 900 employees.

The effort to save Hillphoenix from relocating in nearby Newton County was spearheaded by the Rockdale Development Authority with the cooperation of both city and county governments.

Yes,this has been a good news week for the citizens of Rockdale County
