The Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology recently was awarded the prestigious Difference Maker award by the Alliance for Student Activities as the top community service high school in the United States.

The students’ involvement with the local food bank made a huge impact to Rockdale County residents in need.

We are more than proud of our local students for winning this award. These are some of the top students in the county. If they had decided to focus all their energies in their academic achievements, no one would have thought less of them. But they saw a need and rose to the occasion.

It’s also a testimony to their parents, teachers and our community. We expect our schools to help our children reach their full academic capabilities, but if that is achieved and our children have not been taught to give back to their communities, we have failed them.

These students are on the right track in becoming the leaders of our future.
