Olly Thomas (O.T.) Adams, Jr., of Conyers, GA passed away Monday, June 13, 2011. O.T. was born in Shiloh, Georgia on August 30, 1920 to the late Olly Thomas Adams, Sr. and Orrie Jane Watkins. O.T.'s family relocated frequently, since his father operated a sawmill, and resided in many Georgia locations including Palmetto and Tucker, finally settling in Conyers in the late 1930's. O.T. graduated from Conyers High School on June 10, 1940. In 1942 O.T. joined the Conyers Volunteer Fire Department, beginning what was to be a long and distinguished career of public service. O.T. continued to work for his father in the family sawmill business until 1955. On February 12, 1955, O.T. married Eula Claudine Lester and remained happily married until his death. Also in 1955, O.T. began work with the Conyers Police Department, rising to the rank of Chief of Police and retiring in 1982. Throughout his life O.T. served in many other capacities of public service including Conyers Assistant Fire Chief, Director of Civil Defense, Assistant to the Conyers City Manager, Rockdale County Coroner, and Rockdale County Deputy Sherriff, serving as court Bailiff. O.T. was well known for his commitment to, not just upholding the law, but doing what was right. He was well respected by everyone in the local law enforcement community as well as State and Federal agencies such as the GBI and FBI, who he often coordinated with. O.T. will certainly be missed by his family, friends, and professional associates, but his spirit will always remain with us, reminding us to always do right and have fun. O.T. is survived by his wife, Claudine Adams, Conyers; son and daughter-in-law, Robert (Bobby) and Belinda Adams, Covington; grandchildren, Jessica and Andrew Johnsen, Winston-Salem, NC, S.N. Jeremy Adams, Covington, Sgt. Jason Adams, Ft. Campbell, KY, Jill Adams, Covington; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Fred Adams and Bentley Adams; sister, Margaret Adams. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 17, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Scot Ward's Green Meadow Chapel with Kelly Brisendine officiating; interment will follow at East View Cemetery. Family will receive friends Thursday, June 16, 2011 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
