Rockdale County's parks and recreation system will be celebrating National Parks and Recreation Month with a day free of charges and fees for facilities at Johnson Park, including it's pool, basketball gymnasium and weight room.

Recreation and Maintenance Director Jackie Lunsford was joined by Aquatics Manager Jeramie Reeves, Lead Lifeguard Cooper Watts, Therapeutic Recreation Manager Tom McPike, and Senior Wellness Coordinator Winnie James for the proclaimation and in announcing this celebration at the June 25 Board of Commissioners meeting.

The no-fee hours at Johnson Park on July 13 are 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at 1781 Ebenezer Road. For more information, call 770-278-7529.

Lunsford also highlighted summer camps going on at Parker Road and Johnson Park, being assisted by senior citizens in the community, and the network of walking and biking trails in the county. The newest completed trail of about 12-14 miles extends from South Rockdale Community Park on East Fairview Road in the south of the county to Alexander Lake and to Lithonia.
