News You Can Use: Where to find help putting food on the table

The following are some food banks and resources that may help you and your family.

• Servants of the Lord. (770) 922-6206. Saturday and holiday meal delivery. Call for interview and to start delivery, no age limit. Sponsored by Conyers First Methodist Church.

• Sharing Circle Meals. (770) 787-3522. Conyers Christian Church. Contact Claudette Durham, Be sure to tell her that you were referred by Senior Services. This volunteer group will deliver soup for the needy.

• Rockdale Emergency Relief, 350 Tall Oaks Drive. (770) 922-9210 or (770) 922-0615. Eligible seniors can receive a box of non-perishable food every three months. You must have Social Security card and picture ID at time of pick up. You also must arrange your own pick up or a family member can do this for you if he or she has your ID.

• First Shady Grove Church, 2105 Old Covington Highway. (770) 483-8283. Tuesday and Thursday 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., Saturday at 10:30 a.m. First come, first served. Often has fresh fruit and vegetables. Bring your own boxes, bags and transportation.

• Food Stamps, Department of Family and Children Services. (770) 388-5025. Must meet income eligibility to qualify.

• Angel Food Ministries, 1041 Honey Creek Road. (770) 760-9981. Monthly ordering of a variety of food for $30. Must have your own transportation and pick up is only one day per month. Prior ordering and payment required.

• Rockdale Baptist Church. (770) 483-8392. Small box of food every three months.

• Old Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. (770) 483-8392. Tuesdays noon to 1 p.m. First come, first served. Must be a Rockdale resident and show picture ID. Eligible for a box of food every two months.

• Belmont Baptist Church, 3275 Iris Drive, (770) 786-8676.

• Monastery of the Holy Spirit, Ga. Highway 212. (770) 483-8705. Rockdale and Newton residents. Every Tuesday 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A variety of food, breads, pastries and canned goods. Eligible once every three months. Must show a current picture ID and Social Security or Medicare card.

• Solid Rock Baptist Church. (678) 342-3434. Rockdale and Newton residents. Tuesday and Wednesday mornings 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Thursday nights 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Must have picture ID and a $7 donation if possible. Eligible for one box of food, once a week. They may deliver if disabled and an emergency. Taken on a case by case basis.
