The unveiling of draft plans for a new City Hall complex on Oakland Avenue tops the agenda for Conyers City Council's annual Summer Retreat on Friday in Buford.
As the News previously reported, city government needs more office space than is available at its current Scott Street headquarters. A new City Hall also could spur private development in a large area between I-20 and Green Street, officials say.
The Kennesaw design firm Croft & Associates has been working on a conceptual plan for a new City Hall. The plan is slated for discussion at 1 p.m.
Another big item on the agenda is the creation of a city strategic plan, a kind of blueprint for future development of Conyers. The strategic plan comes in response to calls for clearer directions and explanations on city planning from both residents and City Hall staff.
The Summer Retreat will be held at Legacy Lodge Conference Center, Lake Lanier Islands Resort, 7000 Lanier Islands Parkway, Buford. The Friday session, which is open to the public, runs 1 to 7 p.m. in Conference Room 3.
The retreat also includes an all-day Saturday meeting that is a private executive session to discuss personnel, potential litigation and real estate issues.
