CONYERS- The Rockdale County Department of Recreation and Maintenance, along with the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) and Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association (SORBA) Atlanta, is inviting the public to a meeting to learn about developing recreational mountain bike trails at South Rockdale Community Park and on the DeCastro Property.
The meeting will be held during the Recreation SPLOST Subcommittee meeting on June 15 at 6 p.m. at the Johnson Park Recreation Center, 1781 Ebenezer Rd., Conyers.
Representatives from IMBA and SORBA Atlanta will present a conceptual trail plan that includes a comprehensive 10-mile mountain bike system with beginner, intermediate and advanced trails.
In 2014, the two associations entered into a memorandum of understanding with the County to work together at the South Rockdale Community Park and on the DeCastro Property to develop the trails. The park has become a destination for road and recreational bicyclists with the Rockdale River Trail completion.
IMBA, SORBA and county staff have been working cooperatively since that time to develop a plan. Early this year IMBA Trail Solutions spent a week on site to create a proposal.
Citizens are encouraged to ask questions and provide feedback after the June 15 presentation.
There is no RSVP or sign up required to attend the meeting.
