Name released of pedestrian killed on 138

The name of the Conyers man who died Friday afternoon after being struck by a tractor trailer on Ga. Highway 138 has been released.

According to the Rockdale County Sheriff's Department, Melvin Duerson, 67, was pushing a bicycle across Hwy 138 N. near the intersection of South Main Street at 2:20pm Friday when he was struck by the truck traveling northbound.

Duerson was transported Rockdale Medical Center but died from his injuries a short time later. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, but according to the Sheriff's Department, it does not appear the driver will be charged.

Traffic was closed on Hwy 138 N. for approximately one hour Friday while the accident was investigated.
