The Rockdale County Senior center is looking for volunteers for its Meals on Wheels program.

The program serves about 70 homebound clients per day, requiring 95 volunteers for 10 routes with 12 people working per route. However, only 83 volunteers are currently assisting with preparation and delivery.

"We can use help everyday, once a week, couple times a month or whatever the volunteer has available," said Rockdale County Senior Services Deputy Director Michelle Crawford.

Volunteers will need to arrive at the senior center between 10:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. and no later than 10:45 in the morning. Routes take approximately one hour.

"The volunteer would deliver the meals, greet and briefly chat with the senior and in some cases the volunteer may be the only contact the senior has that day," said Crawford.

The program which brings both nutrition and socialization to seniors, is funded through a combination of state and county funds along with fundraisers such as the Senior Center Rubber Ducky race.
