Rockdale County Master Gardeners are a group of UGA volunteers who are dedicated to helping people in the community by teaching good landscape practices. They work with audiences of all ages. Ongoing projects include working at schools, memorial arboretum at the Horse Park, Vaughn Botanical Garden, Lighthouse Village Children's Garden and much more.
Master Gardener applications are now being accepted for at the Rockdale County Cooperative Extension Office, 1400 Parker Road, Lobby A, Conyers. Participants receive training in areas of turf, fruit, vegetables, pruning, landscape maintenance, pesticide safety and more. They then use that knowledge to help people in the community with horticulture projects. Classes rotate among area counties and are held each Monday, Jan. 11- March 29, 2010. Class time is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $100 and 50 volunteer hours are required. Space is limited. Applications accepted through Oct. 30. Call (770) 278-7373 for more information.
