Jackie Lunsford, who currently heads the Senior Services division, was named to also oversee the Parks and Recreation division at Monday evening's Board of Commissioners work session.
Lunsford, whose new title would be Deputy Director of Senior Services and Recreation, was praised by her supervisor David Smith, director of the Recreation and Maintenance department, who proposed a realignment of four positions within the department including Lunsford's.
Senior Services, Parks and Recreation and Public Works are all part of the Recreation and Maintenance department.
"We have a very outstanding leader in Jackie Lunsford," Smith said. "I have the utmost confidence that Jackie's leadership will help this department and take it to the next step, the next level."
Smith said, "With the recent resignation of (former Parks and Recreation Deputy Director) Don Holley comes an opportunity to reorganize our department in a way that I feel would strengthen the department, benefit the community, reduce headcount, provide some savings and most importantly, put people in positins that we can make the best use of their talents and skills." Holley stepped down from the position as of Aug. 21.
Michelle Crawford, currently the certified information and referral specialist, would become the community services manager. Driver Etta Sue Mullins would become transportation coordinator, overseeing transportation and care programs. Marilu Montalbo of the Capital and Community Improvments department would make a lateral move to become the assistant administrative manager in senior services.
In addition, Susan Morgan, Assistant Director at the Olivia Haydel Senior Center, would be taking on additional duties to free up Lunsford. Crawford will be taking some of Morgan's duties.
