Mrs. Lucy Watkins Little, age 101 of Decatur, died October 9, 2011. She was born in Conyers, Georgia in 1909 and moved to Atlanta in 1928. Her kind demeanor, wise advice, and love for family and friends has been very influential and will be strongly missed. She inspired many young folks to be kind, responsible, and individually successful. Mrs. Little was a basketball player and a graduate of Triangle Grove School, owner of DeKalb Cash Grocery, mentor to local community residents and relatives, exceptional hostess, wonderful cook, and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She was a World War II home-front wife, a caregiver and provider for both military and non-military neighbors and relatives, and a Victory gardener. She raised her children, those of relatives and neighbors, and tended to business and family while her husband Leonard was away at war in Europe. She continued those same activities after the war. Mrs. Little retired from the grocery business in 1960 and turned to caring for grandchildren, sick relatives and friends, home business endeavors, home gardening and canning, coin collecting, collecting antiques, community involvement, and home making. She was preceded in death by Leonard Little, her loving husband of 74 years; parents, James Edgar and Susan Watkins; brothers, Weyman T. Watkins and Oscar Watkins; sisters, Myrtie Owens, Robbie Watkins, and Sarah Watkins. Mrs. Little is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Tommy Haas, Conyers; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Beverly Little, Marietta; grandchildren, Terre and Susan Haas, Jerry and Kay Haas, Cathy and John Baskin, Angela and John Chadbourne, Stephanie and Kevin Glandon, Leonard Scott Little, Stephen J. and Cheryl Little, Dana and Ned Mitchell, Mark and Eva Chambers; 16 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Emerson Little and wife, Virginia; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Little, Bertha Little, Annie Mae Little; cousin, Lucille Rainey; loving nieces, nephews, and cousins; caregivers, Jackeline Ramirez, Pat Kennemore, Karen Cox. Special thanks also to the 4th floor staff at Budd Terrace, Wesley Woods at Emory. Lucy and her family received God's special blessings when He helped them find both the private and institutional caregivers that provided her with exceptional and loving care. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 1233 Pleasant Hill Road, Conyers, GA 30012 with Rev. Scott Richardson and Rev. Jerry Haas officiating; interment will follow at Sodom Cemetery in Conyers, GA. Family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Scot Ward Funeral Home in Conyers. Mrs. Little will lie in state at the church from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Flowers are welcome.
