Local piano students shine under Young

Joshua Jones, 16, son of Maria and Kenneth Jones, received his 5-year composer pin for playing his fifth 10-piece program with a Superior rating. Joshua is a home-schooled high school junior. He has completed six years of piano studies with Martha Anne Young and also plays bass guitar with his church praise team each Sunday morning. He is a competitive swimmer and has been swimming on a USA swim team for 6 years, qualifying for the state swim meet three times. He enjoys hanging out with friends and ballroom dancing.

Katarina Jones, 13, daughter of Maria and Kenneth Jones, has studied piano for 6 years with Martha Anne Young. In May, she played her fifth 10-piece program for the National Guild of Piano Teachers and received a Superior rating and five-year honor pin. She is home schooled and will enter 9th grade in the fall. She enjoys ballroom dancing, but her favorite thing is swimming. She has been on a USE competitive teach for 6 years as a distance swimmer.

Reynolds Rogers, 13, daughter of Dr. Carter Rogers and Julie Rogers, just completed seventh grade at Eastminster School and her fifth year of piano studies with Martha Anne Young. She played her fifth 10-piece program for the National Guild judge and received a Superior rating and a five-year honor pin. She serves as captain of her middle school team and is a member of the National Junior Honor Society. She plays high school tennis and maintains an A average. Reynolds is active in her church and plays with her sister every year at Salem Camp
