With just one more day left in early voting, more than 11 percent of active, registered voters in Rockdale have already cast their ballots for the July 31 primary, or about 38 percent of the total projected turnout.

So far, 5,508 voters have cast their ballots out of the 14,465 predicted to participate for July 31. There are a total of 48,213 active registered voters in the county.

Republicans outnumbered Democrats in getting to the polls early with 3,472 Republicans and 1,951 Democrats using early voting. There were also 85 nonpartisan ballots cast.

The Stanton precinct has the highest rate of early voting turnout so far with 17.41 percent or 462 voters. The Olde Town precinct has the lowest rate of early voters with 6.65 percent or 260 voters.

Early in-person voting is until 7 p.m. tonight at the elections board office at 1400 Parker Road, Lobby C.

On July 31, voters will have to go to their local precincts.

District maps, especially for state House, Senate and Congressional districts, were recently redrawn after the 2010 Census and all Rockdale County voters were sent new precinct cards.

Voters can check with the Rockdale County Board of Elections Office at 770-278-7333 about which precinct and polling station they are assigned.

Based on the changes, all voters in Rockdale County (approximately 55,000) are now in the 4th Congressional District.

On the state level, the only Senate district change was with the Lorraine Precinct being shifted from the 43rd Senate District so the 17th Senate District.

The state House districts were impacted the most, as the Georgia General Assembly renumbered all of the House districts in Rockdale, leaving House District 92 with no incumbent since it is a newly-created district.
