Tuesday night the Heritage Lady Patriots hosted the Lady Falcons of Flowery Branch, falling 56-33 in region action.
“We battled back,” Heritage coach Lauren Chambers said. “We had a chance to cut it to 10 and I thought if we had have cut it to single digits we really would have had a chance.”
The game began with the Lady Falcons coming out on an 8-0 run with four of those points coming from freshman Julianne Sutton.
The Lady Patriots’ first basket came on a put-back layup by BriAllen McIver.
The Lady Falcons ended the first quarter on a 6-0 run and held a 17-4 lead.
The second quarter started with freshman Kylah Mize making a layup and a jumper to score the first baskets of the period on either side. Heritage went on a quick 4-0 run with shots from Alexis Hawkins and a pair of free throw makes by Damali Thomas.
Both teams continued to trade short scoring spurts, but a 3-pointer from sophomore Heather Moore and a layup from Sutton helped the Lady Falcons to a 30-12 halftime lead.
Flowery Branch opened up the third quarter on 6-2 run, with four of those points coming from Sutton. Both teams traded buckets for a majority of the quarter until the Lady Patriots went on 4-0 run. The quarter ended with the Lady Falcons holding a 20-point lead.
The Lady Patriots came into the fourth quarter playing more aggressive and came out on a 7-0 run to cut a 20-point Lady Falcons’ lead down to 13.
“We could’ve caved in and just fallen already being down 18,” Chambers said. “In the last four games we have shown who the Heritage Patriots really are.”
However, that run was the only points the Lady Patriots put up during the quarter, as the Lady Falcons ended the game on a 10-0 run and won the game 56-33.
The Lady Falcons were led in scoring by Sutton who had 18 points.
