KCRB to participate in Great American Cleanup

The 2010 Great American Cleanup campaign theme, "Green Starts Here," is a rallying call that encourages volunteer groups, community leaders and people of all ages and walks of life to begin creating more sustainable communities through their efforts as volunteers and their daily choices and actions.

In 2009, the KCRB Great American Cleanup Event resulted in removing more than 200 tires and 6.5 tons of garbage and litter debris from our roadways, neighborhoods and parks. This year, it is the goal of KCRB to exceed these numbers and have the most successful event yet.

Groups or individuals interested in volunteer should complete a sign up form available at the County’s Administration & Services Building (958 Milstead Avenue) or on the County’s Web site: www.rockdalecounty.org. Forms may be faxed or mailed by request.

An appreciation lunch and event t-shirts will be available to all who volunteer the day of the event. Safety gloves, safety vests and trash bags will be provided to all volunteers. The Rockdale County Recycling Center will accept all debris collected during the event at no charge.

The Cleanup kick-off will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Wheeler Park Pavilion, located at 1350 Parker Road, where groups may pick up supplies. Groups and volunteers are welcome to show up the day of the event, but to guarantee lunch and T-shirts for your group, registration by April 12 is required. The appreciation lunch will be from noon to 2 p.m. at the Wheeler Park Pavilion.

For more information on the Cleanup Event or to sign up, contact Holly Lafontaine, Executive Director for Keep Conyers-Rockdale Beautiful at (770) 278-7052 or kcrb@rockdalecounty.org.
