DAILEY, JOSEPH BYRON

 

Major Joseph Byron Dailey, retired Georgia State Patrol, age 87 of Conyers, died January 27, 2012.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Myrtice H. Dailey; parents, Curtis and Olivia Dailey; brother, Milton Dailey; sister, Jean Terry.  He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jefferson Byron and Jackie Dailey, Watkinsville; brother and sister-in-law, Chester and Merle Dailey, Griffin; sister and brother-in-law, Betty Ann and Bob Bowers, Riverdale; grandchildren, Jeremy Dailey, Athens, Jordan Dailey, Watkinsville; numerous nieces and nephews.  Major Dailey retired from the Georgia State Patrol where he served for 35 years.  He also served two terms of active duty aboard ship in the U. S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.  Major Dailey and his wife were long-term members of Conyers First United Methodist Church, and they enjoyed traveling and spending time with their grandchildren.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Scot Ward’s Green Meadow Chapel with Pastor Dan Brokaw officiating.  Interment will follow at the Decatur City Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Monday from 3:00–5:00 and 6:00–8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Contributions may be made to Conyers First United Methodist Church, 921 N Main Street, NW, Conyers, GA 30012.  Condolences may be submitted on-line at www.scotward.com.  Scot Ward Funeral Services, 699 American Legion Road, Conyers, 30012, 770-483-7216.
