Mr. John J. Sharek, age 79 of Conyers, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, September 22, 2011, after a long illness.  John was born on January 9, 1932 in Throop, PA.  He graduated from Throop High School in 1949. John was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict as a radio technician from 1951-1955. While serving he received many medals including, Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Meritorious Unit Citation, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with double bronze star, Republic of Korea (ROK) Korean War Service Medal, and United Nations Korean Service Medal.  After returning home from Korea, John married his high school Sweetheart, Dorothy Rakosky.  John is survived by Dorothy, his loving and devoted wife of 57 years.  Also surviving are three children, John M. Sharek and his wife Mary Ann of Wolcott, CT, Bruce D. Sharek of Naugatuck, CT and Denise A. Smith and her husband Bryan of Dacula, GA.  John is also survived by six grandchildren; Michael Sharek, Marie Sharek, Krystal Sharek, Kelcey Sharek, Christian Smith, and Shane Smith.  John will also be missed by his beloved pet, Honey.  John was an active parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church where he had the privilege of serving as an usher and Eucharistic Minister for several years prior to his illness.  John was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus; achieving past Grand Knight status of Council No. 4182 in Dover, DE,  District Deputy of District No. 3 in Dover, DE, and past Grand Knight of Council No. 10004 in Conyers, GA.  A funeral Mass celebrating John’s life will be officiated by Rev. John C. Kieran at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at  St. Pius X Catholic Church, 2621 Highway 20, S.E., Conyers, GA 30013. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in his memory to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, St. Pius X Catholic Church, 2621 Highway 20, S.E., Conyers, GA 30013.
