A Heritage High School student was beaten unconscious after reportedly calling a fellow student an obscene name.

On Aug. 19 at approximately 12:35 p.m., a HHS resource officer was advised by three students that a boy was lying in the floor of the restroom located in the main common's area. The officer found a young man unconscious on his left side between two sinks in the restroom.

Once the victim regained consciousness, the officer noticed the right side of the victim's face was swollen and that his mouth was bleeding. The victim was reportedly unable to tell the officer what happened and was transported to the Rockdale Medical Center. Once at the hospital, it was determined his jaw was broken and that his mouth would have to be wired shut

Through interviews of students who witnessed the incident, it was determined Manuel Jesus Castillo, 18, hit the victim while in the restroom. Manuel was taken to the conference room located in the front office of HHS where he wrote a statement admitting that he hit the victim with his fist while they were in the restroom.

Manuel was arrested and charged with battery. He was transported to the Rockdale County Jail.

The victim's mother later reported her son received a text message from a fellow classmate that read "You should not have called me a hoe."
