Mr. Herman A. Francis, 89, of Conyers, died Tuesday, Feb. 26. He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Elaine Francis. He is survived by his daughter Joy Carter and husband Mike Childs; sons Thomas M. Francis Sr., all of Conyers; Austin Broadwell, Atlanta, Robert Broadwell, Conyers, Wayne Broadwell, Dallas, Texas; grandchildren John H. Carter, Benjamin D. and Laura Carter, all of Conyers, Tony and Erica Childs, Snellville, Thomas M. and Lisa Francis Jr., Covington, Angela Francis, McDonough; great-grandchildren, Jack Michael Carter, Thomas M. Francis III, Jordan Francis. 

Mr. Francis was retired from AT&T after 31 years of service. He served on the Rockdale County Board of Education from 1969–1976 and was the Board Chairman for two years. He was a Commissioner for Post 2 in Rockdale County from 1977–1979. He was a long-time resident of Conyers and very active in the community as a charter member of the Rockdale County Kiwanis Club. He helped organize First United Fund Conyers-Rockdale County and Rockdale Emergency Relief Fund. Mr. Francis was vice-chair of the first Republican Party in Rockdale County and served on the Northwest Georgia Girl Scout Council Finance Committee. He was a member of Conyers First United Methodist Church. 

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force serving from 1942–1946. Funeral Services will be held tomorrow, March 3, at 2 p.m. at Scot Ward’s Green Meadow Chapel; interment will be held Tuesday, March 5, at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends today, March 2, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
