The Heritage High School performing arts community is reeling from the sudden loss of a freshman in the Academy for Performing and Visual Arts, Michael Jared Rollins-Jones, who had sickle cell anemia and passed away Monday evening. He was 14.

According to his biography in the program for Heritage's spring musical "Chicago," where he was performing as part of the company, Rollins-Jones began acting when he was 6 in a theater camp at Tarrytown, N.Y. He was invited to perform at the Lincoln Center in 2010 by the Hole in the Wall foundation and around the state in 2011 with the Antonia Arts group.

He played the role of Pugsley Adams in Heritage's fall comedy "The Addams Family, The Musical" and was in the company for "Once On This Island."

The cast and crew of "Chicago" will pay tribute to Rollins-Jones at the 7:30 p.m. performace on Friday, April 24, where donations will be collected to aid the family.

A memorial for Rollins-Jones will be held Saturday, April 25, 1 - 4 p.m., at Lexington on the Green, 5850 Hillandale Drive, Lithonia. Funeral services will be held in New York, where Rollins-Jones' great grandmother passed away on the same night, April 20.

A GoFundMe site has been set up for donations to help with Jared Rollins-Jones' funeral expenses: http://www.gofundme.com/jaredsangels
