Heritage High student wins top ROTC honor

Heritage High School student Clinton Werner, left, accepts his award from East Side Scottish Rite President Ben Polston. Werner was named the 2009 East Side Scottish Rite Scholarship Winner of the Year and took top place at the ESSRA ROTC Awards. Each year, the award is given to one ROTC student from each school on the east side of Atlanta who has excelled in ROTC and academics. Gregory North from Rockdale High School and Rachel Facer from Salem High School
were also honored.

Award winners received honors from former Lt. General David Poythress, Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel, and Gov. Sonny Perdue. Students submitted essays on academic, ROTC and community achievement to earn the scholarships.

Werner, in addition to Gregory North from Rockdale High School, and Rachel Facer from Salem High School,
were honored.
