The holidays are around the corner. Here are some upcoming  events to help families in need:

 

Tuesday, Nov. 13. Prevent Child Abuse Rockdale is offering a way to help Rockdale’s children while getting a Thanksgiving bird. “Melt in your mouth” smoked turkeys, 10–12 pounds, are available for $40 each. Benefits PCAR. Order deadline is Nov. 13. Pickup is Nov. 21, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Conyers First United Methodist Church, 921 Main Street. (770) 483-7333 or director@pcarockdale.org.

Saturday, Nov. 17. Nehemiah Empowerment Ministries, with pastor Anthony Smith, will give away turkeys just in time for Thanksgiving at their new location at 1005 Harding Street, Conyers, on Saturday, Nov. 17,  9 a.m. Limited number of turkeys available; first come first serve. Recipients must to register to reserve a turkey. To register, call (770) 755-4319. 

Sunday, Nov. 18. Pre-Thanksgiving Dinner for veterans/seniors. American Legion Post 77 will be serving seniors and veterans over 65 years of age a complimentary pre-Thanksgiving at 2 p.m. to the first 250 who sign up. Sunday, Nov. 18, Thanksgiving Dinner for homeless veterans. 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Lou Walker Senior Center, 2538 Panola Road, Lithonia. (404) 427-3104.

 Tuesday, Nov. 20 Thanksgiving Ecumenical Service. Various denominations gather to celebrate a special Thanksgiving service, held at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 2621 Ga.  Highway 20. Call (770) 483-3660 for more information. The Thanksgiving offering will benefit Family Promise of NewRock, a collaborative interfaith, nonprofit providing hospitality and social services to restore homeless families in our communities to sustainable independence. 

 Thursday, Nov. 22 “Unto the Least of These” Annual Thanksgiving  lunch. 11 a.m. Open to anyone who does not have a place to celebrate with a traditional Thanksgiving dinner.
