The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team of the Georgia State Patrol has concluded its work in connection with the May 10 fatal crash in Rockdale County that resulted in two fatalities.  The crash occurred on Interstate 20 westbound near the Salem Road Exit and involved a 1994 Honda Accord and a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado.  The crash claimed the lives of Edi Rodriquez, age 19, from Covington and Hunter Anderson, six months old, from Madison.  Hunter Anderson’s mother, Kyrie Alassen Anderson, age 22, from Madison was injured in the crash and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta for treatment.

Based on their work, state troopers have determined the Honda Accord was being driven by Edi Rodriquez at the time of the crash.  The Honda was traveling westbound on Interstate 20 in the center lane and the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling in the same direction in the left lane.  Edi Rodriquez lost control of the vehicle, struck the guardrail on the right shoulder of the road, and then re-entered the travel lanes.  The Honda came to rest in the left lane.  Rodriquez exited the vehicle and he and the Honda were hit by the Silverado.  The Silverado then hit the concrete median barrier and came to rest on its left side facing west.

Also during the investigation, no evidence was found that the Honda’s driver was racing.  In reviewing a video from a nearby gas station, troopers observed the Honda Accord pull into the station for gas with Rodriquez exiting the vehicle from the driver’s seating position.  He then re-entered the vehicle on the driver’s side and left the station lot driving the Honda.  The crash occurred approximately five minutes later, six miles away.

No charges will be filed in connection with the crash.
