The Collegian of Georgia Perimeter College has been named best student newspaper at a Georgia two-year college by the Georgia College Press Association. The Collegian’s website, collegiannews.com, also was named best two-year college website at the association’s annual awards luncheon Feb. 5 in Athens.
The newspaper also won first-place awards for design and advertising. Collegian staff members won individual first-place awards for investigative reporting, feature photography and photo essay.
The GCPA contest, awarded for work published in 2010, was judged by professional newspaper journalists in Georgia.
The Collegian won the following awards based on year long performance:
— General Excellence, first place.
— Best Website, first place.
— Layout and Design Excellence, first place.
— Advertising Excellence, first place.
— Photography Excellence, second place.
— Community Service-Editorial, third place.
— Community Service-News, third place.
Staff members won the following awards:
— Investigating Reporting, first place, Sabastian Wee, Hilary Coles, Adam Waldorf, Melissa Wong, Ariel Cohen and Antonio Garay.
— Editorial or Feature Photograph, first place, Hilary Coles.
— Photo Essay, first place, Mike Eden.
— Column, second place, Zoe Packman.
