Georgia Perimeter College along with four other colleges in Georgia will add the word "state" to their names to show that the colleges offer limited four-year degrees accredited by the State Board of Regents.

GPC's new name will now be Georgia Perimeter State College along with Atlanta Metropolitan State College, Darton State College and East Georgia State College, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

The regents instructed the schools to "be judicious" in making the change to manage costs. When the regents approved a name change for Georgia Health Sciences University President Ricardo Azziz estimated it would cost about $2.5 million, with the largest expense going to new signs.

The regents voted last year to let the four colleges and two others offer bachelor programs in select areas.
GPC also has a named a new vice president, Ron Stark.
Stark was the former chief audit officer for the University System of Georgia.

He has a "career's worth of experience in solving financial problems," Interim President Rob Watts wrote. The college is facing a $16 million budget shortfall for this fiscal year and problems are expected to continue next year.

The school's former president, Anthony Tricoli, stepped down Monday. following the disclosure that the school has a roughly $16 million downfall.

In light of Tricoli stepping down, Watts stepped up as an interim president.

Tricoli will reportedly work at GPC's system office to assist in distance education, adult degree completion and learning support.
