The Rockdale County NAACP demonstrates its commitment to education once again with the annual Freedom Fund banquet on Saturday, March 17, at 6 p.m.
The banquet, which raises funds for three scholarships for Rockdale County high school students, will be held at the Georgia International Horse Park's Carriage room. This year's theme is "Education is the Bridge to Success." This year's guest speaker is Rockdale County Public School Superintendent Dr. Samuel King.
Four community members will also be recognized that night - one with the Jean Williams Award for Community Service and three other community service awards.
"We know education is the key to success," said banquet organizer Allene Eatman. King was chosen as the guest speaker because of the performance of Rockdale County Public Schools, said Eatman.
"It's under his leadership that the Rockdale School system is flourishing. A lot of times we take these things for granted," she said.
Tickets for adults are $40 in advance until March 12 and $50 at the door. Children 12 years old and under are $20. Tables of 10 can be reserved. For more information, call Allene Eatman at (678) 413-9520.
