Florida attempted murder suspect captured in Newton County

COVINGTON - A murder suspect on the run from Florida was captured June 18 in Newton County.

On June 18, 2015 while patrolling deputies with the Newton County Sheriff's Office assisted Escambia County Florida with the apprehension of the suspect.

Deputies received information that the suspect may be enroute to a location off of Harold Dobbs Rd in Newton County. Deputies received a "be on the lookout" alert that the suspect was travelling in a gray Chevy truck. While en route to that location deputies observed the vehicle and were able to intercept it at the Marathon Gas Station on Crowell Rd.

The suspect was arrested and taken into custody as he exited the store without incident.

The suspect is identified as 46-year-old Carl DeWayne Scott of Pensacola, Fla.

The suspect was transported to the Newton County Jail where he remains awaiting extradition.
