Civil Air Patrol Lt. Natalie Hannans is hoping to make “Wreaths Across America” a staple in the carousel of Rockdale County holiday events during this time of the year.

Wreaths Across America is an event where the community can sponsor a wreath to be placed by the memorial or grave of a fallen veteran. It takes place on the second Saturday of December every year at 900-plus locations nationwide.

Along with Muriel “Eboni” Whaley, a member American Legion Post 77, Hannans coordinated the first Wreaths Across America event in Rockdale County today. The group laid only three wreaths down at the Green Meadows Memorial Gardens, which is by Scott Ward Funeral Services, 669 American Legion Road, Conyers, today, but anticipates getting more sponsors next year.

Hannans says that it will be a yearlong process to recruit more sponsors and donors for next year.

“We’ll be working around the clock,” she said. “Next year will be the big year.”

Funds raised from the event benefit the American Legion Post 77 at 674 American Legion Road in Conyers and the Civil Air Patrol Newton County Composite Squadron.

How To Sponsor

If you would like to become a sponsor or donor go online at http://www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/. To sponsor one wreath is $15.
