There were excited smiles and some somber faces as Rockdale County Public Schools students headed back to school this morning. Parents, loaded down with bags of school supplies, were greeted by educators, who have been preparing for the last two weeks. Here are a few scenes from Sims, CJ Hicks and Shoal Creek Elementary schools.

Enrollment on the first day of school was almost the same as last year's first day enrollment number: 14,167 this year versus 14,164 last year.
