A blaze demolished a single-story house near Flat Shoals and Ga. Highway 138 Tuesday afternoon, leaving a family without a place to call home.

The fire 1741 Fox Chase Ct. was called in about 2:30 p.m. By the time Rockdale County Fire and Rescue engines arrived, heavy smoke and flames were coming out of the windows of the rented duplex.

"Fire personnel conducted an interior attack and ventilated the roof to extinguish the fire," said RCFR spokesperson Sharon Webb. At least five engines, a ladder truck and rescue truck responded to the scene, along with emergency medical personnel. No one was injured.

The fire was put out but the house was considered a total loss.

The residents did not have renter's insurance, said Webb. Red Cross was called to assist the family.
