The Rockdale County Fire Department had a successful day of fundraising on Saturday as members took station at Wal-Mart in Conyers.
The RCFD raised $1,000 by selling hot dogs, hamburgers, commemorative T-shirts and medallions for the 1951 fire engine it is restoring. The department's 1968 engine was also on location for tours.
Wal-Mart, along with allowing the fundraiser on its premises, also donated $2,500 from the Wal-Mart foundation.
After restoration, the '51 engine will be used to assist in Fire Safety presentations and at community events. The department hopes to have it restored in time for the 2011 Hometown Holiday Parade.
