After so many years playing on the same field at the friendly confines on campus at Rockdale High, the baseball Bulldogs will be moving across the field to their new park.

As part of the expansion project that will see the relocation of neighboring Hicks Elementary, Rockdale County School System is installing a baseball, softball and lacrosse field on the property that will be the new home for Bulldog athletics.

The new facility is designed by Precision Turf of Buford. Precision Turf has built some of the country’s premier playing fields including fields for the University of Georgia, University of South Carolina, Georgia Tech, North Carolina State University, University of Virginia and Clemson. In addition, Precision Turf has built new facilities for Wesleyan, Sprayberry, and South Forsyth high schools.

While the Bulldogs failed to make the playoffs this year in Class AAAA, it’s hard to find any fault in their current field. The facilities are old no doubt, but the playing surface is well-manicured to the point where it rivals the likes of Turner Field, the home of the Atlanta Braves.

The dugouts and press box have been erected and the field is graded and ready for turf. Stay tuned this summer for updated photos of the new facility as it nears completion.
