The third annual "Walk of Heroes" will be held Saturday, June 20, 8 a.m. at the Mall at Stonecrest to raise awareness for mental health, substance abuse and developmental disabilities and to raise money to assist in servicing the communities' behavioral healthcare and developmental disabilities needs.

The DeKalb Community Service Board, DeKalb's safety net provider of services relating to mental health, substance abuse and developmental disabilities, will host the "Walk of Heroes."

Executive Director Gary Richey encourages the community to participate. "The ‘Walk of Heroes' celebrates those who are committed and dedicated to improving the lives of families challenged with mental illness, substance abuse and developmental disabilities. This walk brings together DeKalb's citizens who themselves might be facing illness or disabilities with those willing to work to address the needs of others."

Participants of the "Walk of Heroes" will run or walk a 5k course beginning at the Mall at Stonecrest through Arabia Mountain Trails. Also planned are a 1k Fun Walk, a 50 yard Tot Trot and a Community Fun Day at the Mall at Stonecrest's Plaza near AMC Theatre.
