CONYERS - Epiphany Lutheran Church celebrated its 30th anniversary of serving in Rockdale County Sunday, Sept. 13.
Epiphany began its service in Conyers in 1985 as a merger of Our Saviour Lutheran Church and King of Glory Lutheran Church. In 1988, it became a part of the newly formed Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Pastor David Armstrong-Reiner has served as senior pastor since August 2014.
He said, "I am blessed to be a part of a church that has shown from its beginning that differences do not have to divide us. Rather, our differences and even our disagreements can strengthen us by witnessing to a unity that can best serve God and our community."
He said that he has seen that cooperation in the work of the nonprofit organizations through the Rockdale Community Resource Network and in the ecumenical work across the different denominations, whether through prayer meetings, Family Promise, the ecumenical Thanksgiving service, or other opportunities.
Epiphany was instrumental as one of the 12 churches of NewRock's Family Promise which provides shelter for homeless families through a network of community churches.
"As a congregation, we strive to serve God and to serve the community in which we have been placed," Pastor David said. "As a church, we claim ourselves as a part of the Body of Christ, and so we strive to be the hands and feet and voice of Jesus in our world, speaking and sharing the love of God through Jesus to all whom we encounter."
Sunday's celebration consists of one worship service at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary with a lunch and program to follow in the fellowship hall. As a part of the worship service, Epiphany is excited and honored to welcome back Frederick Frahm as the guest director for the celebration choir.
Frahm was the choir director in 1997-1998 and has commissioned a choral piece in honor of Epiphany's 30th anniversary. Frahm currently serves as the Director of Music and Principal Organist at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
"Our involvement with other churches and nonprofit organizations within the community has been and continues to be a part of this church," Pastor David said. "My hope is that we can continue to be God's presence in this community, serving God and Rockdale and we just want to invite the people of Conyers and Rockdale to come join us in our celebration of our 30th anniversary."
